Registration Is Now Open! Be a Part of Something Exciting On September 6-7

Richmond Open Studios is a free, city-wide, volunteer-led event which gives artists the opportunity to show and sell their work directly to the public at a table located at each of our five partner venues, or at their individual and collective Richmond studios. A map will be published detailing the location of each studio and partner venue.

Artists can choose table sales at our partner venue tables on 9/6 and/or at a Richmond studio on 9/6-7. Registered artists enjoy

  • The lowest registration fee for Open Studios

  • Participation in the optional ROS preview exhibition

  • Optional Individual promotion on local press, VAR’s socials, website and newsletter

  • Free ROS workshops, helping you price your work and get organized

How To Register

Registration opens on March 15 and ends on June 4. The cost is a $40 flat fee. We keep our registration fee low to enable all individual artists to participate. For this reason, all artists showing in a collective space must register individually. There is also an option to “pay it forward,” if you would like to help another artist to pay for registration. To complete your registration, you must:

  • Be a resident of Richmond or its unincorporated areas OR have a studio located in Richmond or its unincorporated areas. A studio can be many things. If you make your art in Richmond we don’t care if it is a garage, a kitchen, or a large building, but you must provide an address.

  • Be a VAR member: have a free profile in our directory by the time you register

  • Attend at least one of the informational sessions - see below for info and dates

This year, individual promotion and participation in the preview exhibition is optional.

Registration ends on June 4. Please, register early to help us plan and to ensure your spot at one of our partner venues if needed.

Required Informational Sessions

Because we expect many participants this year, we will be holding two informational in-person sessions and one remote session in lieu of assistance over email or the phone. Get all your questions answered and get help with your profile or the forms in just one hour. You must attend one of these in order to complete your registration.
This year, artists with incomplete applications will be registered for the next available informational session.

May 10
Richmond Art Center: 3-4pm

May 22

Submit Your Work to Our ‘Made in Richmond’ Preview Exhibition and Get Promoted

We are excited to announce that this year, our Made in Richmond’ show will be in the Main Gallery of the Richmond Art Center. VAR members registered for ROS can opt to participate in this exhibition and receive individual artist promotion on our social media and website by completing the form.

Please fill out the form and send us your quality images of your best 2D and 3D work created in 2023-2025. There is no size limitation, and we are open to proposals for small installations and larger sculptures.

The deadline for the electronic submission of these materials is June 13 at 5:00 PM. Please attend any of our three info sessions to receive help with the exhibition form or requirements. Because we won’t have the capacity to provide help or reminders via email or phone, incomplete submissions will have to be rejected. There is a list of important dates at the end of this page.

Professional Development

You may be an emerging artist, new to our Richmond Open Studios, or just curious. We’ve prepared a page with some resources to help you get organized, and we also have two workshops, Pricing Your Art For Open Studios and Getting Ready for Open Studios. Both are free to registered artists, and very affordable to non-members.

Help Us Have an Amazing Richmond Open Studios!

We need your help! VAR is not a non-profit. We are a volunteer-run organization, which means that ROS does not work without the help of all of our community. There are many ways you can volunteer for this year’s Richmond Open Studios. It is also a great way to get to know other Richmond artists. Follow this link to our volunteer page and let us know how you can help.
