Richmond Open Studios
Preview Exhibition Registration

Our ROS Preview Exhibition is an opportunity to showcase your work through a recent piece, thanks to the Richmond Art Center, one of our partners. The registration form collects information for the curator choosing the pieces and planning the show's layout. You can prep by gathering:

  • Two great quality images of your work.

  • Info for each of these two images, including your name, the date they were created, the media and size unframed.

  • A one-paragraph description for each image of the process you use to create them, or a mini-bio, or an anecdote that creates interest in your work among social media followers.

Please complete this form by June 2 at 5:00 pm

2025 Dates and Some Things that Have Changed

The work will be shown at the Community Gallery between July 9, and Sept 4. July 12 is the opening reception for their summer shows, from 1-3 pm. Sept 6 is the first day of our Richmond Open Studios. We are limiting this preview exhibition to one piece each from VAR member registered for our Richmond Open Studios. Ours is is not a curated or juried show.

You can participate by registering for ROS 2025 and sending great quality photos of two recent pieces (from 2023, 2024 or 2025). Size limit is 18 x 24” for two-dimensional work and 18 x 18 x 18” for three-dimensional work. This year there won’t be size exceptions - please plan accordingly!

Great quality photos don’t have to be fancy or taken by a professional photographer but they can’t be blurry. Or dark, or shot in front of busy backgrounds like your begonias. Use a strong light and take care no glare ruins the appearance of your work. Photos taken with your phone work well because their resolution is at least 2000 pixels.

All 2D work needs to be submitted ready to hang, with a wire attached to D rings and your name media etc attached to the back. 3D work needs to be securely packaged to avoid damage until it is ready to be positioned on a pedestal.

At the Richmond Art Center, the drop-off dates are Saturday July 1-2 from 10-2 pm. On those days, you will sign a RAC loan form. The Richmond Art Center cannot store packaging materials.

Pick up dates are Sept 8-9, from 10-2 pm. If you cannot make those dates or you run into problems, please don't call the RAC - give us a heads-up at contact@visualartistsofrichmond.org

Not only will the Center’s many visitors see your work, you can sell it if you want. Other than than the low 30% commission the RAC charges for work sold, no additional fees will apply. Please check back often as this page will be updated with new details.
