Richmond Open Studios Exhibition
‘Made in Richmond’

This year we excited to be able to hold out ROS Preview Exhibition,
MADE IN RICHMOND, in the Main Gallery at the Richmond Art Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to be part of a dynamic group show that celebrates art made in Richmond and builds momentum for Open Studio weekend. The closing of the show will correspond with Open Studio weekend.

This group show is only open to artists participating in Richmond Open Studios. If you register, by filling out the Google form below, you get the option of participating in our Preview Exhibition. Participation includes individual promotion in our social media, ROS map and website. You can prep by:

  • Attending a required informational session.

  • Collecting two great quality images of your work, made 2023-2025.

  • Gathering all of the information needed for the label for this exhibition including your name, the date the artwork was created, the media used, dimensions of the piece, and the sale price (or Not For Sale).

  • Writing a description of your artwork - the processes you use, your inspiration, a mini-bio, or an anecdote tells a story about your work so we can promote your work.

  • Updating your bio for the exhibition’s About The Artists table

Please complete this form by June 2 at 5:00 pm

Artists sending incomplete submissions will be automatically enrolled in the next available info session. Incomplete submissions sent after May 29 will be rejected.

  • The exhibition will be in the Richmond Art Center’s Main Gallery between July 9, and Sept 6, 2025

  • The opening reception will be on July 12 from 1-3 pm

  • Sept 6 is the last day of the exhibition and the first day of our Richmond Open Studios

  • Artwork must be delivered to RAC on either Friday June 20 or Saturday June 21 from 10-2 pm. A VAR representative will be there to collect your work and you will sign a RAC loan form at this time. Neither the Richmond Art Center nor VAR can store packaging materials.

  • Artwork must be picked up from RAC on Monday September 8 or Tuesday September 9 from 10 - 2 pm. If you cannot pick up your work during this time please do not call or email the RAC staff. Contact us at contact@visualartistsofrichmond.org

VAR members who have registered for ROS may submit one piece for the exhibition (diptychs, triptychs, or small groups of art pieces hung together can count as one piece). We are open to proposals for small installations, larger pieces, or sculptures space permitting and with approval by the curator.

You can participate in this exhibition by registering for ROS 2025 and sending great quality photos of a piece made in 2023, 2024 or 2025. There is no size limit on the work that you are submitting but please make sure you are including the correct size and any special placement or display requests in the form.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal for a small installation, sculpture that is larger than 3 feet in any direction, or 2D piece to hang on the wall that is larger than 4 feet in any direction, please email us

Great quality photos don’t have to be fancy or taken by a professional photographer but they can’t be blurry, poorly lit, crooked, or shot in front of busy backgrounds like your begonias. Use a strong light, a white or light colored background, and take care no glare ruins the appearance of your work. Photos taken with your phone work well because their resolution is at least 2000 pixels.

All 2D work needs to be submitted ready to hang, with a wire attached to D rings and your name media etc attached to the back. We strongly encourage you to frame your work or to finish the edges of work on canvas or panels; the Main Gallery is a very large impressive space and we want your work to look as professional as possible. 3D work needs to be securely packaged to avoid damage until it is ready to be positioned on a pedestal.

Not only will the Richmond Art Center’s many visitors see your work, your work can be available for sale. Other than than the low 30% commission the RAC charges for work sold, no additional fees will apply. Please check back often as this page will be updated with new details.
