What Is Richmond Open Studios?
This is the 3rd year the Visual Artists of Richmond organizes the free, city-wide Richmond Open Studios with the intention of creating a diverse, safe, equitable and accessible space for Richmond artists to show and sell their work and thus contribute to our community’s transformation through the arts.
Richmond Open Studios will take place on September 6 and 7, from 11 to 4 pm. Some artists will be opening their individual studios to the public, and others will be showing their work at one of our four partner venues (see below). A printed guidebook will be distributed, detailing the location of each studio and partner venue.
Made in Richmond
Come see the work of 80 artists participating this year! Don’t miss Made in Richmond, our Richmond Open Studios preview exhibition at the Main Gallery of the Richmond Art Center. The show includes a sample of the exciting work of many other Richmond artists. This event is free and open to the public, opening on July 9 and ending on September 6. Gallery hrs are Tues-Sat 10-4 pm.
Our Sponsors
We are excited to introduce the local businesses who are supporting visual arts in Richmond!
Clay People is “Northern California’s Leader in Ceramic Supply” and will also be the place where you can see the work of one of our ROS artists, Isaiah Phillips.
Seaport Studios supports the collaborative creation of immersive art projects and larger-than-life sculptural installations right here in Richmond. Several of their artists will be participating this year.
Our Four Partner Venues
The Visual Artists of Richmond is grateful to the Richmond Art Center, the NIAD Art Center, the Richmond Museum of History and Culture and Point Richmond Gallery for supporting VAR’s vision of an independent, artist-organized open studios in Richmond.
This year we are excited to share that all four partner venues are filled to capacity with Richmond artists eager to show you their work. So, if you don’t have time to go to individual studios, visiting a couple of partner venues is an option. We will have a page on this site and a printed booklet with locations and the list of artists at each venue.

Please Volunteer!
All of us will be working very hard to make this vision a reality, and we could use your help! You don’t have to be an artist to volunteer and we will be incredibly grateful.
Before the event, we need help placing 2-3 flyers in specific locations on the weekend of August 23-24. During the event on Sept 6-7 we really really need people who can go to the individual artist studios to take photos and video.
